DIMAPUR — The Nagaland police on Saturday brought narcotics drug trafficking kingpin Baharudin from Kohima police station to Dimapur to seize pertinent documents related to the ongoing investigation, from his residence in Zeliangrong village.

The police informed that the court had remanded the accused in the custody of the Nagaland Police Narcotic Cell in Kohima for about 7-8 days and that his transportation to Dimapur was to seize documents related to drug trafficking activities and that it was not a ‘raid’.

The Nagaland police had posted on micro-blogging site X on March 22 that they had arrested Baharudin, narcotics drug trafficking kingpin of the north-east from Sonitpur, Assam, in close coordination with the Assam Police, terming it as “a major successful operation spanning over many months”.

They added two other associates — one from Dimapur and one from Imphal– were also arrested.

The police revealed that Baharudin is ‘wanted in multiple known cases registered across the region and has been running a major drug network spread over many states, and involved in financing, procuring transportation and sale of various dangerous drugs’.

He was using multiple aliases, identities, phone numbers and has numerous hideouts to carry out the trafficking in narcotics and numerous people have been associated with him in the conspiracies to traffic banned substances like ganja, brown sugar, etc. in the region, said the police, adding that he had tried to evade the law enforcement agencies for many years.

Maintaining that drug traffickers have been creating havoc in many families across the state, the police urged the people to report drug sellers and traffickers to Police.

“The strict provisions of NDPS Act provide for forfeiture of properties acquired from the profits of drug trade; anyone purchasing such property from drug dealers are cautioned they must apply due diligence as these properties are fit to be forfeited in due course of time,” the police cautioned.
